Madurai: Issuing a series of regulations for New Year celebrations, Madurai city police have banned revelry after 1am on January 1.
In a statement, Madurai city commissioner of police T Senthil Kumar said as many as 1,300 police personnel and 100 home guards will be deployed for security across the city. People should not to roam around on two-wheelers unnecessarily. He warned stringent action against persons involved in rash and negligent riding and drunk driving. Adequate police personnel will be deployed at all religious places of worship. Hotels and recreation clubs in the city should strictly abide by the regulations prescribed by police, he said. People who are leaving out of station could alert the local police station so that police go on patrol to those areas. Special teams have been formed to monitor bike racing on roads.
Meanwhile, general manager of Courtyard by Marriott Madurai, J P Menon said a gala dinner at Madurai Kitchen showcasing gourmet delights and authentic recipes will be organised on December 31. The New Year eve bash will be hosted by Keerthana, in which singers Rajaganapathy, Jagadeesh Kumar, Bhargavi Sridhar and Shanti will perform. It will be followed by DJ night by DJ Naveen.
Events are being organised at Fortune Pandiyan Hotel from 7pm on December 31. Bigg Boss Tamil fame actress Reshma Pasupuleti will participate in the event.
