NDA protests ‘₹200-crore tax scam’ in Madurai
Madurai: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) staged a protest at Munichalai junction on Thursday, demanding the arrest of those allegedly involved in a "₹200-crore property tax scam" in the Madurai Corporation.More than 500 cadres participated in the demonstration led by Sellur K Raju and V V Rajan Chellappa, along with leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam, and Pattali Makkal Katchi. Protesters also demanded urgent improvement of civic infrastructure, including road repairs, and the full implementation of the Mullai Periyar Combined Drinking Water Project. Addressing the gathering, Raju alleged widespread corruption in the civic body. "The DMK deserves a Nobel Prize for finding ways to corrupt even the air," he said, accusing the administration of being driven by a "commission culture". He also claimed that layout approvals required bribes of up to ₹30 lakh.
