Madurai: Cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) are being trained to work in disaster relief and were actively involved when the deluge struck southern Tamil Nadu in Dec last year, commodore S Raghav, deputy director general of NCC, directorate comprising Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andaman & Nicobar, has said. .
The commodore visited the 28th NCC battalion at Virudhunagar on Tuesday and accepted the guard of honour from the cadets. He also interacted with the cadets. Addressing reporters, he said that the NCC directorate comprising Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andaman & Nicobar region has more than one lakh NCC cadets, and another 22,000 cadets will be enrolled shortly.
The NCC cadets from the region actively participate in the recruitment process for armed forces, including the Agniveer drives. The NCC cadets actively take part in disaster relief work and are provided with adequate training for those tasks, he added.
