MADURAI: Burglars who broke into a doctor's house near Palani in Dindigul district on Monday night decamped with 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 60,000 in cash.
There was nobody at the house located in Lakshmipuram at the times of the incident, police sources said. "The doctor, Arulmozhi, working at Keeranur Government Hospital, had left for Namakkal to attend a function a couple of days ago along with her husband.
Her father Sabapathi was alone at the house. Sabapathi is running a weighing bridge in Palani. He was at his office at the time of the incident. The thieves stole the valuables kept in a bureau. As the keys were kept near the bureau, it made the job easy for the thieves. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when Sabapathi returned. Based on a complaint from him, a case was registered," a police officer said. Police are investigating the incident.
In another incident that took place in Navinipatti near Melur in Madurai district, cash and jewellery were stolen from a house owned by a hospital staff.
