85 kg of ganja seized, two arrested in smuggling bust

Madurai: Madurai Rural District Police arrested two people on Wednesday, including a man from Dindigul, and seized 85 kg of ganja being smuggled in a truck.
The police team, led by the Melur Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) inspector, was conducting a vehicle check at the Kottampatti-Kumutrampatti junction when they intercepted M Kannan, 42, from Madurai. Upon inspecting his truck, officers found 85 kg of ganja stored in sacks. The investigation revealed that the ganja was smuggled from Odisha with the involvement of M Sakthivel, 50, from Sempatti in Dindigul.
Both suspects were arrested, and the police seized the truck and a mobile phone used in the operation. The investigation is on.
