Man murdered by five-member gang

Madurai: A 46-year-old man from the city was allegedly hacked to death by a five-member gang at Balarangapuram in Teppakulam police limit late on Friday night. The victim was identified as Sadayandi, 45, son of Nagalingam from Indira Nagar in Kamarajarpuram. However, police are yet to ascertain the cause of the murder.

Police said that there was a gang rivalry between relatives turned foes V K Gurusamy, a local DMK leader and A Rajapandi, a local AIADMK leader. Both Gurusamy and Rajapandi had served as zonal chairmen of Madurai civic corporation.

Police said that Sadayandi had reportedly sided with Gurusamy. During the course of their rivalry, many people from both sides have been murdered. The latest to be murdered was Rajapandi’s son, R Muniasamy in June earlier this year. But, it was not clear whether Sadayandi had any role in that murder.

Meanwhile, Teppakulam police who registered a case shifted Sadayandi’s body to the Government Rajaji Hospital and are conducting a detailed inquiry.
