Man killed, six injured in head-on collision near Poovanthi

Sivaganga: A 58-year-old man was killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Poovanthi in Sivaganga district on Friday.The deceased was identified as Ravi of Jeeva Nagar in Manamadurai. He was returning home with his family after attending a housewarming ceremony in Madurai.According to police, Ravi was driving on the Madurai–Thondi National Highway around 11.30am when another car, driven by Prabakaran and coming from the opposite direction, collided head-on with his vehicle near Poovanthi. The impact caused both cars to overturn.Ravi died on the spot, while five members of his family and Prabakaran’s wife sustained injuries. Police rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and shifted them to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for nearly 30 minutes following the accident.Poovanthi police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
