Man detained for alleged murder of daughters

: Police have detained a 36-year-old man who allegedly murdered both his

daughters

by throwing them into a well at

Kovilpatti

in

Tuticorin district

on Thursday.

According to police sources, Devikumar, a resident of Iluppaiurani near Kovilpatti was married to Mahalakshmi, 32. The couple had two daughters Shaini Jayasathya, 11 and Jesika Rani, 9, who were studying Class V and Class III respectively.

Devikumar was working as a broker and used to get driving licences for people. He had borrowed money from several people and was allegedly facing problems as they started demanding the money back. Frustrated by this, Devikumar reportedly took his daughters to a well situated at

Sattur

road and threw them inside on Thursday morning. The girls, who did not know swimming died after drowning inside the water. Police officials who rushed to the spot conducted investigations. The fire and rescue services personnel recovered the bodies after nearly four hours.The police who have detained Devikumar are conducting further investigations with him. TNN
