Man, daughter die as house collapses near Tenkasi

TENKASI: A man and his daughter died at

Vagaikulam

in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night after the roof and a portion of their old house collapsed due to heavy rain.


The deceased have been identified as Kalyana Sundaram, 60, and his daughter Revathi, 25. His wife Velammal, 55, who was also injured in the incident, is getting treated in a hospital.

The couple has four daughters of whom the first three are married and live elsewhere. The couple and the youngest daughter, who worked in a private firm in

, lived in the old house.

The house was built with mud and brick walls and had a mud roof supported by logs. Summer rain resulted in water seeping through the roof.

Their neighbours had advised them to abandon the house as it could collapse anytime. Kalyana Sundaram was searching for another house.

The Alwarkurichi police registered a case.
