Make Madurai TN’s 2nd capital: Consumer body

Madurai: The South Indian Consumer and People Rights Protection Organization conducted its 34th World Consumer Rights Day conference at the World Tamil Sangam in Madurai on Sunday.During the meeting, the organisation passed nine major resolutions including an appeal to declare Madurai the state's second capital, the establishment of a permanent bench of the State Human Rights Commission in the city, and the urgent implementation of metro rail projects in Madurai and Coimbatore.The organisation also called for the immediate connection of southern rivers, action against food adulteration under the Goondas Act, and the inclusion of Madurai airport in international bilateral air service agreements (BASA) to fully realise its potential as a global aviation hub. They also urged the govt to create more job opportunities for unemployed graduates by setting up IT parks and factories in the southern districts.Madurai corporation's deputy mayor T Nagarajan said, "New technologies keep coming up for consumers, and with them new bad actors and scams. It is the responsibility of each one of us to be aware of them and protect ourselves."The conference was led by president Manavalan and general secretary V Singarasa. Renowned debate speaker Raja was also present.
