The woman and Kumar had a dispute regarding settling the money, and in May last year, Kumar and a couple of others attacked the woman and her son, which led to a police case being registered.
In July this year, deputy mayor Nagarajan and his brother T Rajendran, along with Muthuchamy, and P Muthu, threatened the woman and her son in front of their house over the monetary dispute with Kumar and the pending police case.
As police did not take any action on her complaint, the woman approached the Madurai district judicial magistrate - IV court. Based on direction from the court, FIR was registered by the Jaihindpuram police on Sept 30.
Nagarajan, Rajendran, Kumar, Muthuchamy, and Muthu, were booked under five sections of the BNS and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) Act, including for trespass, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.
