Madras HC dismisses plea for revoking permission granted for erection of statue in Madurai

MADURAI: The Madras high court has dismissed a plea which sought to revoke the permission granted for erection of a

statue

of Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar in

Madurai

district.

The court was hearing the public interest litigation filed by

R B Kannan

of

Ramanathapuram

district. In his petition, the petitioner stated that he came across the pamphlet as well as the poster regarding the erection of the statue by DMK youth wing secretary and MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin in Madurai on March 19.

He stated that there are many incidents where police faced problems in respect of statues being insulted and broken. It has resulted in breach of law and order situations. It should be definitely curtailed by the government.

said when this court asked which permission was sought to be revoked, the petitioner's counsel stated that he did not have the copy of the permission which is challenged. Such a petition with these averments and such prayers could not be entertained, observed the judges, while dismissing the petition.
