MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Tuesday closed a petition filed by AIADMK

Rajya Sabha

member

Anwar Raja

's son Nazar Ali seeking anticipatory bail.

Justice GR Swaminathan who heard the plea passed the order closing the petition after accepting the submissions of the additional advocate general (AAG).

The AAG said the alleged offence had taken place in Chennai and so the FIR registered should be transferred to Chennai on the basis of jurisdictional point of view. Hence, it would be proper for the petitioner to approach appropriate forum in Chennai, the AAG said.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by one Rofina, the Karaikudi North Police registered a case against Ali for the alleged offences punishable under sections 294 (b) (obscene acts and songs), 417 (punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing deliver of property) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act.

Apprehending arrest, Ali filed the petition.

According to prosecution, Ali and Rofina had developed cordial relationship. On account of the same, he made a false promise to marry her. Further, he received Rs 50 lakh from her with an intention to cheat her. Subsequently, he tried to marry another woman. On knowing the same, she questioned him. Following this, he abused her using filthy language and threatened her, she alleged.

However, the petitioner said he had not committed any offence. He said both of them established a partnership firm called Narrow Media in Saidapet in Chennai and engaged in advertisement and movie-related works. They invested Rs 50 lakh. However, the firm got into a financial crisis. It led to a dispute between them. She did not accept the loss and claimed a huge sum of money. As he refused it, she preferred to lodge a false complaint against him, he said.
