TUTICORIN: People from Koodankulam and its nearby villages have sent a legal notice to officials involved in Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) threatening to initiate criminal action against them for endangering the lives of the people living around the plant. A copy of the legal notice has been sent to administrative director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India, chief of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and director of Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
The legal notice was sent by S Tamilarasi, K Ladisla, K Kewistan and S Paul who belong to Idinthakarai; S
John Thomas Anton and J Laser from Koothankuzhi and V Rajalingam and A Athilingam from Koodankulam villages. They demanded the officials to stop the operations in the plant to ensure safety of people living near the plant. They threatened to initiate a legal suit against officials if any life is lost due to technical snag in the plant. The notice said that the plant should have commissioned several years ago as planned. Since the trials conducted by the officials in the plant have been failed, the plant was not commissioned yet. They also said that components used in the plant are of low quality and Indian scientists are ignorant about the Russian technology used in the plant. Since plant is posing threat to people living around the plant, it should not be commissioned, legal notice stated.
