Kin protest after suspended Aavin official ends life
Madurai: Following the suicide of a 35-year-old development officer at Aavin on Tuesday night, who had been suspended by the administration, his relatives protested on Wednesday outside Government Rajaji Hospital demanding for action to be taken against those responsible for his death.
Pugazhendhi, 35, from Othakadai, a development officer at Aavin, had been suspended more than a week ago due to some issues related to his work. Pugazhendhi is said to have been under immense stress during the past few days.
On Tuesday night, Pugazhendhi ended his life, said police. On Wednesday, after his body was recovered and brought to Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) for autopsy, the Pugazhendhi’s kin protested demanding for action to be taken against those responsible for his death.
The kin refused to accept his body and sat outside the hospital disrupting traffic. They demanded for a judicial inquiry and action against higher officials at Aavin for being responsible for Pugazhendhi’s taking the drastic step. After long talks with the police, the kin dispersed and received the body for burial at their native village. The Othakadai police have, meanwhile, registered a case and are investigating. During investigation, the police recovered a suicide note in Pugazhendhi’s handwriting from his room as well.
