Kidnap threat to bizman: Engg graduate held
Madurai: City police arrested a 22-year-old engineering graduate for threatening a city-based businessman of kidnapping his two daughters. The civil contractor from Anna Nagar received a phone call and an SMS last week demanding ransom for not to kidnap his daughters.
The accused was identified as Sai Prasanna, 22, from Kanagavel Colony in Teppakulam in the city. He recently completed engineering from a private college and was looking for a job. He had demanded 70, 000 euro, which is equal to around Rs 53.91 lakh in Indian currency from L Sridaran from East Main Road in Anna Nagar. His daughters are studying in a prominent city school in Classes V and XII.
Sridaran, however, contacted the police. Anna Nagar police which conducted inquiries using the mobile phone number, picked up the accused on Sunday. Police said he admitted to the crime during the inquiries. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and lodged in prison. Mobile phone and SIM cards used for the crime were also confiscated by the police. Police investigation revealed that he had threatened a few more affluent persons in Madurai, demanding money. However, they could not ascertain so far that whether he had managed to extort any money from them. During the inquiries the accused told the police that he had got information about Sridaran’s family members and his daughters’ school information from his Facebook account. tnn
