Jallikattu season in Madurai district to begin on Jan 14

MADURAI:

Avaniyapuram

will host the first jallikattu event of the year in

Madurai

district on January 14. Jallikattu will be held at

Palamedu

on January 15 while the renowned

Alanganallur

event, which is organised by the Tamil Nadu government, will take place on January 16.

Officials from departments like revenue, police, animal husbandry, fire and rescue services and tourism took part in a consultative meeting at Madurai district collectorate on Wednesday. Members of the jallikattu event committees from Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur also participated in the meeting.

Last year, 30 jallikattu events were conducted in different parts of the district.

Madurai district collector K Veera Raghava Rao said all mandated safety measures would be strictly enforced.
