MADURAI: The Prakriti international documentary film festival was inaugurated by Bihar governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday. Addressing students, Arlekar said that everyone should work for Amrit Kaal that Prime Minister Narenda Modi has envisaged. The governor said,”The new education policy framed by the government is student- centric, not infrastructure-centric.”
Nandan Saxena’s film titled ‘Boond Boond Se’ won the best documentary in the environment category. The film was about the Lapodia model, a green oasis made in drought prone villages of Rajasthan. Sabij Konar’s film titled ‘Magician of the Red soil’ won the best documentary award in the development category, The film was about how women of Birbhum district in West Bengal designed an integrated kitchen garden.
In the human rights category, a Bangladeshi documentary film titled ‘The girls are not brides’, directed by Nover Hasan Nikkon bagged the best documentary award. The film was about child marriage in Bangladesh. In the Swachh Bharath category, a film directed by Mradul Gupta titled Raho Swachh Jiyo Mast bagged the best documentary award.
The film was about the work of Raho Swacch, Jiyo Mast programme which works closely with children from Kolkata slums, teaching them sanitation habits through games and fun activities.
