ICG seizes smuggled medicines
Madurai: The Indian Coast Guard seized more than six lakh capsules of Pregeb 150mg while they were being smuggled in the Gulf of Mannar on Tuesday.
Pregeb 150mg is an anticonvulsant, analgesic, and anxiolytic medicine used for treating epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and other purposes. On receiving intelligence input from Ramanathapuram police about transshipment of banned substances from Vethalai seashore in the Gulf of Mannar, ICG searched the shoreline in the wee hours of Tuesday.

They spotted a boat without lights passing by and approached it stealthily. On being asked to stop, the smugglers, who were already near the shore, abandoned their boat leaving the contraband behind. The ICG team found 13 cardboard boxes of Pregeb 150mg capsules. There were more than six lakh capsules in the boat worth Rs 66 lakh, according to a statement from the Coast Guard. TNN
