Madurai: Heavy rain lashed Madurai city and several southern districts on Friday.
The showers, which began around 5pm on Friday, continued till the early hours on Saturday, leaving several roads in the city waterlogged.
The area around Periyar bus stand and the streets around Meenakshi Amman temple such as Veli Streets, Avani Moola Streets and Masi Streets were flooded.
Waterlogging was also reported in Tallakulam, K Pudur, Anna Nagar, KK Nagar and Gomathipuram.
People who had gathered in large numbers on Masi Streets on Friday evening were stranded at various spots owing to the downpour. Vehicles moved at snails’ pace, leading to traffic snarls.
Heavy rain also lashed Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin districts.
Showers continued in isolated areas various parts of the southern districts on Saturday evening.
