Guv in Dindigul on two-day visit

Dindigul: Governor R N Ravi reached Kodaikanal on Sunday evening on a two-day visit to Dindigul district where he will address students of Mother Teresa Women’s University on Monday. The governor flew in to Madurai from Chennai and proceeded to Kodaikanal by road around 4 pm. As a precautionary measure, police had halted traffic plying from Batlagundu to Kodaikanal between 2 pm and 4:30 pm. On his arrival in Kodaikanal, he was welcomed by Dindigul district collector S Visakan.Around 500 police personnel, led by DIG Dindigul range Abhinav Kumar and Theni superintendents of police V Baskaran and Dongare Pravin Umesh, were on bandobast duty in Kodaikanal. Bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, members of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam were detained at Palani after they attempted to hold a black flag protest, condemning the governor’s visit. The protesters led by district organiser of the outfit,Maruthamoorthy wore black shirts, shouted slogans and held a black flag, condemning the governor for allegedly acting against the interests of Tamil Nadu and Tamil people. The police detained the protesters at a private marriage hall.
