Gold jewellery worth Rs 7.4L stolen from two houses

Madurai: Burglars broke into two locked houses - one under the city police limits and the other under the rural police limits — and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 7.4 lakh on Friday. The respective police stations are conducting inquiry into the burglaries.

In the incident that took place in Kansamettu Lane in South Masi Street, burglars escaped with gold jewellery weighing 14 sovereigns and Rs 20,000 in cash. Police said the owner of the house, Y Rajkumar, 42, had left the house in the evening and came back late in the night.

In the second incident, gold jewellery weighing 23.5 sovereigns and Rs 67,000 was looted from a house at Chandraleka Nagar in Silaiman police limits. The house owner returned on Saturday morning. TNN
