: Four people were killed in four different accidents in the last two days on the outskirts of Trichy
. In one of the accidents, the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as the dead body was torn into pieces here on Tuesday. The body of the unidentified man aged about 30 years was found in Pallividaipalayam on the Trichy-Chennai national highway.
On getting information from the highway patrol police at around 3.30am, the Samayapuram police rushed to the spot. But they could not trace the identity of the body because the body was scattered all along the road and the face was completely disfigured. Police suspect that the man was mentally unstable and might have been run over by passing vehicles.
Police also could not identify the vehicle, which is believed to have been involved in the accident. Eventually, police bundled the pieces of the body in a gunny bag and sent it for postmortem. A case was registered. It may be recalled that it was the second such accident in Trichy. Earlier, the torn pieces of an unidentified body were found scattered on the Trichy national highway in October last year.
In another accident that took place in the Samayapuram police limit, Selvam, 46, an employee of Tangedco was killed as a car proceeding towards Sivaganga hit him while he was riding a two-wheeler in near Irungalur around 3am on Monday. The car driver,
Shahul Hameed lost control of his vehicle and hit the two-wheeler. Both the car and the two-wheeler fell into a ditch on the road. Selvam died on the spot whereas four occupants of the car Zaheer Hussain, 47, his wife Aswin Begum, 39, their relative Maideen Basha, 52 and Hameed sustained injuries. The injured were admitted to the
Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital(MGMGH). The Samayapuram police sent the body for postmortem and registered a case.
At Fathima Nagar in Manapparai, a woman devotee Aayalammal, 34 was killed as a truck went berserk and rammed into a group of women who were on a procession to a temple festival on Monday night. Her nine-year-old daughter and two other women Sivakami, 32 and Tamilselvi, 28 were injured in the accident. The truck driver fled the scene. The Manapparai police registered a case.
Similarly, a security guard, Pasumoorthy, 45 of Aandiyapatti was hit by a car when he was trying to cross the road in Soriampatti intersection near Thuvarankurichi late on Monday. He was killed on the spot. The Valanadu police arrested the car driver Prem, 39 of Ramapuram in Chennai.
