File counter affidavits on pleas by Ambasamudram case victim: HC
Madurai: The Madras high court on Monday directed the state government to file counter affidavits on petitions filed by one of the victims whose teeth was broken by suspended assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Balveer Singh using a stone.The petitioner T Arunkumar had four petitions the court - seeking compensation, inquiry report of IAS officer P Amudha, seeking CCTV footage of the police station and a direction to the CB-CID officials to file final report before the concerned court in the case registered against police personnel including Singh.Arunkumar, a resident of Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district stated that he belongs to the scheduled caste community. He was working in a private company in Bengaluru and had come to his native place on vacation. He went out with his friend Mahendran. Due to previous enmity, Mahendran assaulted Subash. Police arrested several people from both sides including him and took them to the station.He stated that Singh who came to the police station asked all the people to undress. The ASP then broke his teeth using a stone and also beat him up. Subsequently, they were remanded and no medical treatment was provided to them. Based on his complaint, the CB-CID officials registered a case against police personnel including Singh.Justice D Nagarjun directed the state government to file detailed counter affidavits and adjourned the case to August 29.
