DVAC books three cops on graft charges
Dindigul: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Dindigul booked three cops, including a police inspector, on charges of demanding bribes for investigating a burglary case and returning stolen gold ornaments and cash.
A DVAC official said K Vijayalakshmi, 60, who runs a petrol bunk in Dindigul, filed a complaint with Dindigul taluk police on Feb 7 this year that around 80 sovereigns of gold ornaments, 3.2 lakh, and a few other valuables were stolen from her house.
However, then station inspector S Chandramohan, sub-inspector R Alagarsamy, and constable Vinoth, allegedly demanded bribes during the investigation. Vijayalakshmi also alleged that the cops were using the petrol bunk to fill fuel for their vehicles without paying for it. Even after nabbing the culprits, Vijayalakshmi's family received only 25 sovereigns of stolen ornaments and did not receive a proper response regarding the remaining valuables from police, she said
Subsequently, Vijayalakshmi filed a petition before Madras high court seeking a probe into the matter. The court directed DVAC to book a case against Chandramohan, now a cybercrime inspector in Sivaganga, Alagarsamy and Vinoth under the Prevention of Corruption Act and conduct an investigation.
