Drugs worth several crore of rupees seized in TN

TUTICORIN

: The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) seized 5.2kg of

crystal methamphetamine

from a fishing boat on Wednesday, which was meant for smuggling to

Sri Lanka

.

The seized drug, said to be valued at 16 crore in the international market, was concealed in five polythene bags. However, no arrest could be made as the accused had fled the scene.

The DRI personnel seized the

drugs

while on surveillance on Mullakadu coastal village based on a tip-off that drugs were to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.

Further investigation was on to trace the boat owner and to nab the accused. It is said that the drugs were to be smuggled from Sri Lanka to other countries. This is the second seizure of crystal methamphetamine in Tuticorin district in less than two months.
