DMK woman councillor alleges death threat

Madurai: A woman councillor of the Madurai central zone filed a complaint with the commissioner of police, Narenthiran Nayar on Friday stating that she received death threat from the husband of the zonal chairperson during a meeting held for the councillors on Wednesday. However, the zonal chairpoerson, P Pandi Selvi denied the charges.
DMK councillor from ward 54, I Noorjahan in her complaint alleged that the central zonal chairperson (DMK), P Pandi Selvi did not pay attention to the welfare of her ward and spoke against her during the meeting. The chairperson's husband MISA Pandian, former deputy mayor issued a death threat to her for speaking against his wife. In the complaint, Noorjahan mentioned that Pandian verbally harassed her by degrading her religion. She has claimed that the chairperson acts on the advice of her husband.
Later in the evening, Selvi met reporters and denied the accusations. She said that her husband did not harass the councillor or give any death threat to her. She also said that she will submit the video recording at the zonal offices as evidence to disprove Noorjahan's claim.“I hear my husband’s advice as he has experience of being a deputy mayor of the city, but I act on my own,” said Selvi. Selvi also distributed a petition signed by around 350 residents of ward 54 complaining of bribery charges and inefficiency against Noorjahan.
