DMK expels ward 62 councillor in Madurai city

Madurai: DMK expelled the councillor of ward 62 of Madurai corporation, K Jayachandran, from the party’s primary membership on Thursday after he was arrested on February 28 in a real estate fraud case.Jayachandran, who won as an independent from the ward, had joined the DMK only recently. According to police, Jayachandran has receive `10.14 lakh in instalments from P Subramanian on the promise of purchasing flats for him in Madurai’s Poigaikaraipatti and Kidaaripatti areas. However, he neither bought the flats nor return the money. Realising he had been cheated, Subramanian filed a complaint with Madurai police commissioner Narendra Nair. Subsequently, Jayachandran was arrested by SS Colony police and lodged in Madurai central jail. TNN
