MADURAI: Eight candidates, including DMK’s M C Shanmugaiah, submitted nominations for the Ottapidaram constituency byelection while 12 others filed their papers for the Thiruparankundram segment, taking the total number of nominaitions filed on Friday to 20 in Madurai.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee vice president APCV Shanmugam accompanied Shanmugaiah to the collectorate for filing nominaition.
Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate M Ahalya and independent A Maharajan and DMK dummy candidate Viji, A Dharmar, P Raj, T Namaalvar, among others, handed over the papers on Friday. The total number of nominations filed for the constituency so far is 13.
With the last date for filing nomination approaching, the Thiruparankundram constituency saw 12 nominaiton filed on Friday. In all, 20 nominations have been submitted so far in this constituency.
The Thiruparankundram constituency has 297 polling booths and has been divided into 26 zones for administrative reasons. As many as 88 polling booths have been identified as vulnerable while 1,504 employees have been appointed for polling process.
A 90-strong flying squad, 36 static surveillance teams and 10 videographers’ teams have been constituted to monitor the entire process. Voters may find out their polling station and voter details by dialing 1950.
