Nagarajan said the initiative marked the beginning of a structured maintenance plan to restore the park. Though upkeep was the responsibility of a private contractor, the corporation would step in to ensure regular maintenance, he said. "We will deploy 10 Corporation staff for routine maintenance. Immediate repairs to restrooms and other facilities will be carried out through coordinated efforts between the Corporation and the contractor," he said. He added that the contractor would be taken to task over the lapses. "We will speak to the contractor regarding the lack of proper maintenance of such an important public space and ensure corrective steps are taken," he said. To address water scarcity, the Deputy Mayor said two borewells would be installed and a long-defunct motor repaired to revive the park's greenery. Councillors, corporation officials and members of the Walkers' Association were present during the drive. MSID:: 129035363 413 |
