TUTICORIN: A 33-year-old policeman committed suicide by
hanging
in his house near Vilathikulam in
Tuticorin
district on Thursday.
The policeman has been identified as Gowrishankar a constable with the Tharuvaikulam police station in Tuticorin. His wife Jenifa, 27, serves in the armed reserve unit of the district. The couple have two children and reside in Sankaralingapuram near Vilathikulam.
On Thursday morning Jenifa had gone to drop their children near the school pickup van and when she returned she found her husband hanging. On information, the Sankaralingapuram police retrieved his body and sent it to the Vilathikulam government hospital for autopsy. Depression due to family issues is said to be the reason behind the policeman taking the extreme step.
Police sources
said that his father Irudhayaraj passed away about a month ago and that Gowrishankar was on leave since then. Gowrishankar and his wife also had some differences in carrying out some work in their house. This is suspected to be one of the reasons for his stress.
