Delete name of CAPF aspirant from criminal case, says HC
Madurai: Granting relief to an aspirant who had cleared written examination and physical efficiency test for the post of constable and rifleman in Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the Madras high court has directed the Thanjavur district police to delete his name from a criminal case. The court was hearing the petition filed by D Hariharan of Thanjavur district. He stated that a criminal case was registered against him by the Thogur police in 2018. After completing the investigation, police had deleted his name and filed the chargesheet before the judicial magistrate court in Thiruvaiyaru.Pursuant to the notification, he applied in the recruitment process for the post of constable and rifleman in CAPF. He stated that he had cleared the written examination conducted in 2022 and the physical efficiency test in May 2023. However, he was shocked to receive the police verification report through an online website in which his name still remained as an accused in the criminal case registered in 2018.Though he had submitted a representation to the authorities seeking to remove his criminal case from the police verification record, the same was not acted upon. So, the petitioner moved the Madurai bench of Madras high court seeking relief. The government advocate submitted that the name of the petitioner has been deleted in the chargesheet. However, on account of the technical issues, still his name is appearing in the website as one of the accused. He sought two weeks time to delete the name from the records.Taking cognizance of the submissions, justice D Nagarjun directed the Thanjavur district police to delete the petitioner’s name from the records in the criminal case and report the same before the court on July 17.
