Death toll in fireworks accident rises to three

Madurai: The death toll in the fireworks accident that occurred in Thathapatti near Virudhunagar on Feb 5 rose to three after a woman worker, who was battling for her life in a private hospital in Madurai, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday night. Mohanraj from Thathapatti village was running a fireworks unit in the village. A blast occurred in the factory on Feb 5, in which Ramalakshmi, 50, from Vathuvarpatti, died on the spot after being caught in the debris. Six more workers sustained severe injuries and were admitted to various private hospitals for their burn injuries.Among them, Simon Daniel, 33, from Meenampatti, died on Feb 9, not responding to treatment. Under these circumstances, Veeralakshmi, 37, from Athiveerampatti village, died in a private hospital on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Kasturi, 31, Vaitheeswari, 34, from Athiveerampatti, Murugeswari, 55, from Bommiahpuram, and Manickam, 54, from Avudayapuram, are undergoing treatment.
