While the number of students staying on the campus is high, the hostels have been getting only limited quantity of water due to some faulty connections.
S Malaisamy, a high court lawyer and B Pandiaraja, member, Dalit Vigilance and Monitoring Committee met Madurai Corporation commissioner S Visakan on Monday evening and handed over a petition explaining the plight being faced by the students in the hostel. “The commissioner immediately ordered to set right the problem over phone in front of us. Work started on Tuesday and the issue was set right,” Pandiaraja said.
Pandiaraja said that the issue was with two connections, which were given through the backside of the hostel buildings. Due to sewage leak, the pipe carried sewage mixed water, which could not be used by students. They faced water shortage as water was supplied through only one line through the front side of the building. Now all the three connections have been routed through the front side of the buildings.
Visakan said that he also given instruction to provide new connections as per the requirement of the hostel. The work on new connection has already been taken up by the officials concerned, he said.
