Cop suspended in murder case

Tirunelveli: Palayamkottai inspector Kasi Pandian was placed under suspension for ignoring intelligence inputs in BJP worker Jegan Pandian’s murder in Mulikulam area. Tirunelveli range DIG Pravesh Kumar who is also holding additional charge as Tirunelveli city commissioner placed the inspector on suspension. Jegan Pandian was hacked to death by a six-member gang on August 30. DMK functionary Mulikulam Prabhu was named as the main accused. As the family refused to collect the body and political pressure mounted, Prabhu finally surrendered to police on September 3. According to police sources, the intelligence wing alerted the police about the feud between Jegan and Prabhu becoming heated up. Kasi Pandian talked to both parties and tried to pacify them. However, the inspector’s efforts did not yield any results as Jegan was hacked to death.TNN
