Madurai: As a solution to repair the structural damage of flats in Melavasal housing board, the
Tamil Nadu Housing Board has initiated the process to hand over the residential complex to Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).
Residents say cracks have developed in many blocks as the basement of the building is soaked by sewage leaking from the UGD pipelines and manholes most of the time.
Residents said TNHB is not attending to minor structural repairs in the complex.
A senior TNHB official said that building the complex is the responsibility of TNHB while maintenance should be handed over to TNUHDB after a few years.
“Due to administrative issues, there was a delay in handing over Melavasal housing board to TNUHDB. Now the process has been initiated and it will be handed over to them within the next six months,” he added Recently, TNHB had handed over housing boards in SM Pillai colony and Aruppukottai Road to Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board for structural maintenance.
