Complaint against Mersal for ‘hurting Hindu sentiments’

S Muthu Kumar, the advocate, has claimed that he had watched the movie in a theatre in Anna Nagar and got offended by the dialogue referring to “construction of hospitals instead of temples” as he claimed that the dialogue had ulterior motive. While there was no mention of the construction of a mosque or church, pinpointing only a temple hurt religious sentiments of Hindus, he claimed in his petition before Anna Nagar police.
Moreover, Muthu Kumar claimed that the dialogues about GST and tax comparison with Singapore were inaccurate and misleading. He had visited Singapore and there was no free education and health as mentioned in the movie. He claimed that the dialogues were against the sovereignty of the country as it incited the younger generation to protest against the nation.
It was not the first time that Muthu Kumar had approached cops for legal action against a movie. He was one among the lawyers who filed cases against the same actor for the movie ‘Sivakasi’ apart from the director Perarasu and producer A M Rathnam, for portraying lawyers and the profession in poor light.
Similarly, a petition was submitted to the superintendent of police, Madurai district, seeking action against BJP state chief Tamilisai Soundararajan for her comments against VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan. VCK Madurai north district secretary M Selvarasu along with a group of functionaries submitted the petition. Talking to newsmen, Tamilisai alleged that Thirumavalavan carried out katta panchayat and threatened people to grab their properties.
