Madurai: Alleging that the
Thiagarajar College of Arts and Sciences
in
Madurai
is illegally charging ₹1,000 as exam fee for recruitment to various non-teaching staff positions, the Tamil Nadu Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Aided Colleges (TANTSACS) has sought the intervention of the state government and stop this illegitimate fee collection.
“Such illegitimate exam fee collection sets a bad precedent for job recruitments in colleges. The college in its advertisement for the jobs which was published in newspapers on September 24, 2021, has no mention of any exam being conducted for recruitment or for any exam fees to be paid. However, the applicants received letters signed by the principal stating that they have to pay ₹1,000 as exam fees by demand draft when they appear for the recruitment process,” zonal secretary, TANTSACS, P
Manhoran
said.
Responding to the allegations, principal of the college
D Pandiaraja
, said that the charges go only towards the exam.
“Since we received a huge number of applications to fill few positions and usually all job recruitments at the college are done based on merit, we are conducting an exam and recruiting based on the qualification. The online exam is being conducted by TCS
ION
. The entire exam fee goes to them. That is why we have asked the applicants to pay through DD. The exam is only to determine the merit of the applicants,” he added.
