CM thwarted BJP bid to stop scheme: Udhaya
Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin made the announcement on the Rs5,000 payout in advance to women as the BJP moved Supreme Court in an attempt to thwart the scheme, said deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday.He told reporters in Madurai that the payout is not being provided for the sake of elections. Many were unaware of an upcoming case moved by BJP before Supreme Court. "Considering that a similar scheme was once stopped in Madhya Pradesh, the CM acted proactively since BJP and AIADMK were attempting to stall the scheme (Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai) here as well," he said.

Udhayanidhi said many women from Madurai asked him to convey their gratitude to the CM for announcing the scheme. "Regardless of what anyone says, the chief minister continues to fulfil his promises exactly as stated," he said.To a question on deaths occurring at TVK chief Vijay's political gatherings, Udhayanidhi asked, "Who should truly take responsibility and provide an answer for such incidents." The deputy CM was in Madurai to participate in a meeting of the party's youth wing functionaries. He also attended the family function of a party functionary in the evening.
