Madurai: The Vilakkuthoon police have booked a case against the management of Ayira Vaisya Higher Secondary School, where three students suffered injuries when a portion of the landing space of a staircase on the first floor of the school building collapsed and fell on them on Wednesday morning.
A case under the IPC section – 337- causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others-- was registered against unnamed people from the management of the government-aided school functioning at South Chithirai Street.
The incident took place when a portion of the landing structure fell on the students standing under it. The students were immediately shifted to a hospital by the school management. Officials from revenue, police, fire and rescue and school education department had conducted separate inquiries. The injured students were identified as V Veerakumar, a Class XII student from Pasingapuram and B Kumaravelpandian from Nallur village and S Sakthivelan from Samanatham both studying in Class XI. While Veerakumar suffered injury on his head, the other two suffered injuries on their legs. They were treated at Government Rajaji Hospital.
The incident had created agitation among students forcing the school to declare a holiday on Wednesday after the incident. A section of students had staged a protest at Madurai district collectorate premises a few hours after the incident.
