MADURAI: A first information report (FIR) has been registered against a woman inspector at the police station, where she is attached to, based on the complaint of an advocate that she had assaulted and abused him in the name of caste.
Mathana Kala of Thenkarai police station in Theni district was booked on the direction of the principal district sessions court in Theni based on a petition from the lawyer identified as K Ashok of Pattalammal Temple street in Thenkarai near Periyakulam.
She was booked under sections of IPC 294 (b)- sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, 323- punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, 342- punishment for wrongful consignment and under various sections of SC/ST prevention of atrocities amendment act, 2015. Along with the inspector, special sub-inspector Deivendran from the same station was also booked in the case.
Ashok stated that he visited the police station in November 2018 for his clients Paraman, Ganesan and Selvam regarding a civil dispute. While inspector Mathana Kala was inquiring with them in this connection, Ashok told her it was a civil dispute which should be dealt in a court of law and not in the police station. This led to a confrontation and, according to Ashok, he was manhandled and slapped by the inspector. She also seized his mobile phone and ID card.
