Tirunelveli: In a freak accident, a man taking bath in a canal near his house was killed after a car passing on an adjacent bridge fell on him at Piranur border in Sengotta, Tirunelveli, on Saturday.
R Nagarajan, 30, was working as a casual labourer in Kerala.
He had come home for the weekend to spend time with his family.
On Saturday morning, he was bathing in the canal when a car that was passing on a bridge lost control and collided against it.
In the impact, the car along with the parapet wall fell on Nagarajan hitting him on the chest.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the car driver P Madhavan Raj, 27, who was trapped inside the car.
Nagarajan was taken to the Sengotta government hospital, where he died of his injuries. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Sengotta police have registered a case and arrested Madhavan Raj on charges of causing death by negligence.
He was remanded in judicial custody later.
