BJP should be ousted to protect Constitution and democracy: Karat
MADURAI: The BJP government at the Centre should be ousted from power to protect the Constitution and
Addressing a public meeting organised by the CPM in which leaders of the allied parties participated, he said that this was the most important elections ever since parliamentary democracy was introduced in 1952. It would also be the elections which will decide if the country is going to remain secular and democratic, and whether citizens would live peacefully without divisive forces destroying the unity of the nation.
“BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have made it clear that they would change the Constitution if it is elected for a second term,” he said, adding that it was up to the secular forces to ensure that it did not happen.
This government, which has ruled the country for five years has not kept its promises to the people. It came to power promising that it would create two crore jobs, but statistics prove that unemployment rate under this government is the highest in the last 45 years. Farmers were promised good prices for their produce., but their income has seen the lowest in 14 years under the BJP rule. BJP and its mentor, the RSS, believes in one language, one culture and one leader policy which is detrimental to the nation. The ensuing elections would be the only chance to defend the country, Karat said.
Stating that crony capitalism is the hallmark of the Modi government, the CPM leader said that it is a government which has nakedly favoured a handful of capitalists and corporates, including the Ambanis and Adanis. The Rafale aircraft deal by compromising a nation’s security and giving it to Anil Ambani’s firm that has no experience in aircraft manufacturing is one such example.
He also blamed the BJP government for failing to control terrorist activities which have resulted in more terror attacks taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. People in Kashmir are being more alienated by the policies of the Modi government, he said.
Karat said that it was the DMK/Congress alliance which had defeated the Vajpayee government when it was needed in 2004, and that he was confident that the alliance would do it again, as the necessity was more now than in 2004.
