Madurai: A bill collector from Thirumangalam municipality was arrested by sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 on Tuesday.
DVAC sources said the complainant,
Nagarajan of Puducherry, a retired govt employee, approached bill collector
Kishore Kumar for property tax fixation for a piece of land registered in his wife name in Thirumangalam. Kishore demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for accepting his documents. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Nagarajan lodged a complaint with DVAC on Tuesday.
DVAC sleuths laid a trap by giving Nagarajan chemically treated currency notes. Nagarajan, as per Kishore’s direction, handed over the money to Kishore’s friend Venkateswaran, a workshop owner from Thirumangalam. At that time, officials caught Venkateswaran red-handed and arrested him. They also arrested Kishore Kumar on the same day.
