Bhavatharini laid to rest in Theni farmhouse

Madurai: Bhavatharini, the daughter of Isaignani Ilayaraaja and renowned playback singer, was laid to rest at Ilayaraaja’s farmhouse near Lower Camp in Theni district on Saturday.The national award-winning singer passed away while undergoing cancer treatment in Sri Lanka two days ago. Her body was initially transported to Chennai and, after a day, brought to the farmhouse by road. Actors and politicians, including former chief minister O Panneerselvam, director Bharathiraja, drummer Sivamani, and several other singers, paid their last respects to the playback singer.According to sources, before the burial, as a musical tribute, family members, including Bhavatharini’s brothers, music directors Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja, along with other relatives, sang one of her popular numbers, ‘Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu, Kili Pola Pechu Onnu,’ from the movie Bharathi, which had earned her numerous awards.
