Award for Aravind Eye Hospital

Madurai: The Global Green and Healthy Hospitals, a forum of 16,50 medical institutions in 75 countries has awarded Aravind Eye Hospital a global green hospital award in the category of greenhouse gas reduction and renewable energy use. N.Balakrishnan, chief electrical engineer of Aravind Eye Hospital, said, “We have inhouse solar energy generation of 1,600 KW and buy around 5,000 to 6,000 KW of solar energy which accounts 65 per cent of total consumption.In a few years, we will be racing towards hundred per cent renewable energy consumption. The hospital has high efficiency cooling devices , pumps, and LEDs using less energy.” tnn
