Ramanathapuram: In a display of honesty, an autorickshaw driver in Rameswaram returned a suitcase containing 2 lakh in cash to a pilgrim who accidentally left it behind in his vehicle.
According to police sources, the pilgrim, identified as Gandhi, a tourist guide from Bengaluru, visited Rameswaram on Wednesday (Feb 11). He engaged an autorickshaw to reach the Rameswaram bus stand. In the hurry to board his bus, Gandhi alighted from the auto but forgot to pick up one of his suitcases from the rear seat.

It was only after reaching the bus stand that Gandhi realised his bag containing cash was missing. He immediately approached the Rameswaram Town police station to lodge a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, police circulated information on the missing bag in WhatsApp groups and social media. Meanwhile, the auto driver, identified as Kalidoss, 40, of Abdul Kalam Nagar in Rameswaram, noticed the unclaimed suitcase in the back of his vehicle. He then handed it over to the police.
Upon opening the suitcase in the presence of police officials, it was confirmed to contain 2 lakh in cash. Police returned the bag along with the cash to Gandhi.
