MADURAI: More than 300 students from various schools and colleges attended a lecture delivered by Jerry Pinto, a Mumbai-based novelist, on Wednesday.
The event named ‘meet the author’ was organised by study centre for Indian literature in English and Translation (SCILET) in American college.
Pinto is best known for his novel, ‘Em and the Big Hoom’, spoke about writing effective short stories to hit a large audience.
In his speech, he said, “I always enjoyed writing. Also, it is important to think about your audience when you write something.”
He added that writers must include an element of laughter in each paragraphs to make the story interesting.
Inspired by his words, M Immanuel, an M A literature student from American college said, “I write poems about nature, but today’s talk has triggered me to get a broader perspective. Pinto’s tips will surely help us.”
Around 12 students from the college were selected to attend the author’s creative writing workshop in Kodaikanal, which was held on the same day.
“After the workshop, the students will publish their short stories in a book called ‘Kavithalaya’,” a member from SCILET said.
