MADURAI: The Madras high court on Wednesday permitted ‘Attack’ Pandi, a life convict in the Dinakaran newspaper office burning case, to take part in the final rites of his mother.
The court was hearing the petition filed by Irulandhi who sought for six days leave for his brother V P Pandi alias Attack Pandi who is confined at the Madurai Central Prison.
Considering the fact that the mother of the detenu has expired and the detenu has to perform the final rites, a division bench of justice J Nisha Banu and justice N Anand Venkatesh directed the superintendent of the prison to permit the detenu with escort to participate in the final rites of his mother on Wednesday. The detenu shall surrender before the superintendent of the prison by 5pm on September 29.
