Committee, led by its chairman S Duraimurugan, inspected various places in Madurai district, including the backward classes

for boys in Sathamangalam, where the roof caved in on Sunday night due to rain.


The committee also inspected the Annai Sathya home for girls, where a new building with the capacity to house 100 students is being constructed at a cost of 5 crore.

They then visited the Periyar bus stand, where a multi-storied bus complex is being constructed at a cost of 159.70 crore. The new bus terminus would have a shopping complex and parking facilities for 4,865 two-wheelers and 371 four-wheelers at a time. The work order was given in December 2018 of which 25% has been completed.

Madurai Corporation's solid waste management system and composting units which will help decentralise the garbage collection process was also inspected by the team. The civic body is establishing 41 micro-compositing units in parks in the respective wards at a cost of 3 crore. Thirteen of these units have been completed. The team also inspected the completed micro-composting unit established in the Madurai Central market at Matuthavani at a cost of 26.50 lakh. They later visited the Government Rajaji Hospital.

Madurai District Collector T S Rajasekhar and Madurai Corporation Commissioner S Visakan accompanied the team which included MLAs M Geetha, PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, A K M Mohamed Abubucker, T Udayasuriyan, K P P Baskar.
